      <image:title>ABOUT (Copy) - About Britta</image:title>
<image:caption>My life journey has been an interesting one. It has been a life full of shifts, struggles, and strange encounters that has afforded me the spirit and space to sit with the transitions, hardships, and curveballs of life with a sense of understanding and acceptance. But let me start with the why. Sort of. I moved to New Orleans right before the chaotic bitch that was Katrina decided to descend upon that sacred city. I had hopes of restoring historic places that spurred my love of the city when I was very young. After the storm receded, it was the whole of the city that needed a rebirth: from its roots, to its architecture, to its culture. And the culture of New Orleans is in the people themselves. When many people left, some because they wanted to, others because they were given no choice, I stayed and did so with a yearning to bring back what I knew of New Orleans. For many months spent under martial law, I was restricted to my front porch and others to theirs from sundown to sunup. From those porches, we would talk to each other and find what connection we could in a city whose heart had been devastated. From those porches, wild friendships formed and my path became more illuminated. I got my Masters in Counseling and began work in the poorest and hardest hit neighborhoods with the poorest and hardest hit humans. One of those sentient beings was a man named Dane. We would meet three times a week on a street corner in the projects, both perched upon milk crates. Dane was textbook schizophrenic, if there is such a thing. Much of his verbal ability got tangled somewhere in his head before it had a chance to come out. So we sat. And there we sat for three years. Very few words were ever exchanged but transformation happened and it was unlike anything I had ever witnessed. In that three years, Dane agreed to take medicine, go to doctor’s visits, come to groups. When we parted ways, he was on a bus to visit family in Dallas. Dane gifted me such knowledge that transformed my work as a human and as a healer. It is not in words but in transactions that beautiful growth can occur. If you have ever visited the city or long to go, you will find people gathered on their porches, on their stoops, in their gardens. It is here that we as friends, families, and strangers find a place to connect. It is here that so much of who we are gets truly revealed. There are no pretenses, only a place to be. It was on those porches that I fell in love with all of humanity and hoped that in turn, I would be accepted as authentically me. What all of this boils down to is: helping people is my top priority. Through my years of countless interactions with people dealing with mental illness, addiction disorders, body dysmorphia, and severe trauma, I’ve learned that communication comes in many different forms and I’ve worked hard to create an open line of connectivity with my clients. From New Orleans to New York City and now back in my home state of Arkansas, I’m honored to work with amazing people and help them on their journey to self-love and self-acceptance. I’d love to work with you!</image:caption>
